Toronto’s tightest instrumental jazz/hip hop act, trio BADBADNOTGOOD, is quickly becoming a high-in-demand beatmaking group for rap’s A-list. This week, they’ve finally released their collaboration with legendary MC/Wu-Tang Clan member Ghostface Killah, “Six Degrees”. Over haunting guitars and some killer locked-in live bass + drums, GK takes some soft jabs at 2 Chainz, and leaves room for Detroit rapper Danny Brown to handle a verse. B-Side instrumental “Tone Rap” is an excellent follow-up, a spaced-out Pink Floyd-meets-The Roots number.
For more, be sure to check out the band’s first live concert with Ghostface, recorded for Alife Sessions.
BBNG live dates include a Red Bull sponsored not-so-secret show in Toronto July 3 at Adelaide Hall, July 5 in Montreal for the Festival International de Jazz, July 11 in Ottawa at Lebreton Flats, July 12 in Vieux-Quebec QC for Festival D’ete de Quebec, and July 13 in Antigonish for the Evolve Festival, before heading to the prairies for August. Details over at the band’s label, Pirates Blend.
