Current alt-electro “it” girl Grimes has built much of her reputation on the strength of her 2012 full-length album, Visions – and hasn’t released much since. Last year, she revealed that she had completely scrapped an album’s worth of new tracks that would have served as a follow-up. 2014’s "Go" was one of those tracks, originally written and later rejected as a possible single for Rihanna. Now, the Canadian experimental songwriter has unveiled another previously unreleased tune – “REALiTi”, with an accompanying self-directed music video shot in Singapore. It’s a glossy, more commercial leaning-effort that has fans divided; some yearning to hear more of the weirdo-pop displayed on Visions, others excited by the sizable, infectious hooks. Either way, it’s not quite up to her standards as an official release. “i lost the ableton file, so its not mixed or mastered” Grimes wrote on her YouTube page regarding her new single. “i tried to doctor the mp3 into a listenable state, but it was poorly recorded in the first place and never meant to be heard by anyone, so its a bit of a mess haha.”
