Although Grimes hasn’t released any new tunes since her early 2012 breakout hit Visions, her star continues to rise – a generous effect of recently being signed to Jay Z’s label, Roc Nation. Last week though, she unveiled a previously unheard track, “Go”, on Zane Lowe’s program on BBC1 and made it available as a free dl on Soundcloud. A collaboration with Montreal-bred LA-based producer Blood Diamonds, it was originally penned as a possible single for labelmate Rihanna, but it was ultimately rejected. "It's our summer jam so we figured we should put it out 'cuz I am very bored of waiting to finish my album b4 releasing new music haha”, Grimes explained via Twitter. With a more conventional stuttering synth EDM bent, it’s a bit dissimilar from previous efforts, likely because it was written for a significantly less alternative popstar.
No word yet on whether it will make the cut for her highly anticipated next record.
